Description

The Iliad is an epic Greek poem attributed to Homer, and is one of the oldest pieces of western literature. The story takes place during the last weeks of the ten-year Trojan War, with a focus on the quarrels between King Agamemnon and the legendary warrior Achilles. The tale's most famous scene is the Greek's supposed surrender in the form of the gift of a large wooden horse to the Trojans. Many scholars agree the Iliad was originally composed and shared orally, intended to be heard, not read. This edition is the verse-translation of Alexander Pope dating to 1720.
